| The mission of
Barnabas Uplift is to assist local, faith and community-based organizations
build individual, family and community self-sufficiency. "Barnabas Uplift" is the name given to a collection of initiatives created for people in Iowa by three synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and several partners. The name Barnabas honors a member of the second set of Apostles, Joseph, nicknamed "Barnabas," which means "son of encouragement." The title reflects the program's emphasis on encouraging individuals and communities to use their God-given resources to lift themselves out of poverty. Barnabas Uplift provides opportunities for individuals to create their own relief by starting careers, small businesses, providing affordable access to health care and creating an environment of awareness in our communities to fight drug abuse. |
